About Story

My journey into crafting with African fabric began with a significant life change ā€“ a move to the United States following the passing of my husband, a U.S. veteran. Faced with the challenge of finding a new purpose for myself, I decided to channel my skills in a different direction, steering away from academia where I had previously retired as a professor of Pharmacognosy and herbal medicine.

Yearning to become an entrepreneur with a mission to empower others and make a difference in education, I found myself at a crossroads. It was during one of those contemplative moments that I heard a voice within me asking, "What do you have in your hand?" Intrigued, I turned to my Bible for guidance, drawing inspiration from the story of Moses and his rod parting the Red Sea.

Reflecting on my own abilities, I rediscovered my passion for sewing. A creative idea struck me ā€“ to craft placemats adorned with encouraging scriptures. As I experimented with various materials, my cousins became my first cheerleaders, purchasing every piece I created and providing the initial support I needed.

Prayer became a constant companion, leading me to explore more ideas and refine my craft. Over time, I developed products that showcase the beauty of African fabrics and designs. Inspired by nature, the intricate patterns and vibrant colors in my creations speak to the richness of splendor found in the environment.

These crafted pieces are more than mere accessories; they embody a fusion of color and structure that allows owners to experience the daily beauty of nature. Each item is a unique expression, serving as a reminder to appreciate the colors of nature in wearable or usable art. By owning a piece of the Ritamarie Design collection.
